Bone Grafts

Everyone needs a solid foundation

What are Bone Grafts?

The bone grafting procedure is an excellent way to replace lost bone tissue and encourage natural bone growth.  Bone grafting is a versatile and predictable procedure which fulfills a wide variety of functions. A bone graft may be required to create a stable base for dental implant placement, to halt the progression of gum disease, or to make the smile appear more aesthetically pleasing.

What to Expect During the Bone Graft Treatment

In most cases, bone grafting is a fairly simple procedure that can be performed under local anesthetic. Initially, a small incision is made in the gum tissue and then gently separated from the bone.  The bone grafting material is then placed at the affected site. Over the next couple of months, your body will replace the graft with its own natural bone.

Once the bone graft is complete & healed, any following surgery such as implant surgery can proceed!

Bone Graft Recovery

Following your bone graft procedure, you may experience some soreness which can be managed by pain medication, as well as ice therapy. Recovery time will vary depending on the area being treated and the size of the bone graft.
